Arctic Slope Native Association is Hiring a Sonographer Near Barrow, AK

Position Summary:

Responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform all requested sonographic examinations as ordered by the attending physician.
  • Perform high-level disinfection according to department policy.
  • Take call according to department call schedule after the close of regular scheduled hours.
  • Responsible for daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures and quality controls.
  • Organize daily work schedule and perform related clerical duties as required.
  • Coordinate work schedule with departmental manager and/or scheduling desk to assure workload coverage.
  • Complete all work before clocking out and leaving. This includes checking with the nurses’ station and ER.
  • Report equipment failures to the appropriate supervisor or staff member.
  • Maintain ultrasound equipment, work area, and maintain adequate supplies.
  • Use cognitive sonographic skills to identify and adapt procedures as appropriate.
  • Use independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
  • Prepare preliminary reports and contact referring physicians when required.
  • Analyze sonograms and medical history and communicate findings to the appropriate physician.
  • Coordinate with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided.
  • Address problems of patient care as they arise and make decisions to appropriately resolve the problems.
  • Assume responsibility for the safety, mental, and physical well-being of patients while they are in the sonographer’s care.
  • Participate in training and education as appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain ethical working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating hospitals, referral or commercial agencies.
  • Assist in other radiology modalities as needed

Education & Experience:

  • Associates of Applied Science degree in Diagnostics Medical Sonography or equivalent hospital training.
  • Two years of experience under a Board Certified Radiologist.

Certification/Licensure:

  • Registered with the American Registry of Diagnostics Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in the specialty or specialties area.
  • Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty or specialties as appropriate.
  • Current BLS certification.
